"Dogtown"

I painted something similar to this, in Los Angeles, about four years ago, but this painting has a totally different meaning to me. I'll always think of my last few weeks here in New Mexico when I look at this painting and see the emptied out home, the lack of paintings on the wall (represented by the "X" in the upper left corner), and the only thing I ever really liked about this house and painted regularly........the backyard and mountains. I've only got two dogs, not four, but they're the only things around me right now that I love. Everything else is boxed up, in the garage, and ready to be shipped off. It looks like that will happen in a month or two, so in the meantime I'll keep painting day and night and wait patiently. "DogTown" 18"x24" Acrylic on Canvas Anxious to go already,TONY

"Pool Boy" (April 22, 2007)

This is the third of three small 11x14" canvases I painted in the last 7 or 8 days, and the only one I'm sending out. They're all 3" wide, and the paintings continue around the sides, top and bottom, but it's impossible to show in a photograph. My impending move is causing me to "think small" in everything I do right now, including painting. The last thing I need right now are more big boxes to move across the country! "LA City Hall Thru Haze"

I planned on painting something more abstract, but, as always, wanted something representational to base it on, so I chose L.A.'s City Hall. The haze is what makes it abstract to me, and could be seen as L.A.'s famous smog or my fading memory of L.A.'s most famous building. "L.A. "Already Gone"

I'm still not close to being physically gone from New Mexico, but I'm definitely mentally gone from here already. I feel like I'm in some sort of limbo purgatory place, not really here, and not really there. In the meantime, I just keep painting day and night and waiting. "Do It Right"

This painting is about my journey from Los Angeles to Corrales, New Mexico, to my current home, and my impending trip and move to Savannah. Although I abstracted the whole thing so much, I don't think anyone would have a clue that that's what it's about.   My old L.A. apartment building is on the top left, the L.A. skyline and hillsides are on the top center and right. My moving truck can be seen if you look for the circle/tire to the right of the right ear. My Corrales place is to the left of the face, my current home in the bottom left, and my car that I'll be driving to Savannah in, is at the bottom center, with some abstracted Savannah buildings in the lower right.   If I didn't explain it, I know this painting would seem to be just an odd mesh of meaningless shapes. But I see the journey laid out in front of me, the past, present and future. In that vein, I painted over a 10 year old painting for this. "Boy Turned Cold"

I said the last painting I redid was going to be the last one, but as I was about to dump this 1995 painting into the trash can of life, I decided to spare it and rework it instead.   I've included the original image, on the left, the reworked version painted over the original is on the right. Gone is the distortion and the obvious symbol of cold, both in this painting and in my life. This IS definitely my last re-do of an old painting, since all of my paintings are wrapped up and ready to move. "Backyard, New Mexico"

My house has been sold, the deed has been done, and the number of paintings left for me to paint in New Mexico are few. This painting of the view from my backyard will be one of my last here.    I leave for Savannah in two weeks, to buy another home there, and then fly back to prepare for my departure from New Mexico.   The 4th of July will be my last night here. I may be able to finish 3 or 4 more paintings before then, but maybe not. This is the second, and last, oil painting I've done here.   "Backyard, New Mexico" 12" x 24" Oil on Canvas Going, TONY
