"Oranges"

A neighbor gave me some citrus trees earlier this year and I planted the orange tree he gave me outside my studio window. It is the subject of this painting. I bought a framed poster at a local auction earlier this year, so I could remove the poster and use the frame. I then cut a sheet of masonite before painting this, to fit the frame.

“Handful of Sunflowers”

This is another piece on wood, cut out on my scroll saw before I painted it. With all of the still lifes of floral subjects painted throughout the centuries, it’s hard to come up with something new. If someone else did a wooden cutout of a hand holding a bouquet of flowers, I haven’t seen it. So, here it is….

"The Verbs He Hears"

The Verbs He Hears
This is another piece painted on wood that I cut out. The tattooed text refers to the verbs I hear in my head and repeat to myself. “Go, work, create, give, try, empathize, share, open, stay, wait, ask, leave, dream, bare, listen, understand, prepare, sweat, find, hear, question, prioritize, maximize, thank, know, initiate, weigh, dream, push, stretch, mix, help.” These are the words that form the sentences in my head and fill the form of this painting.

"El Glorioso"

These flowers, Gloriosa Lilies, are in full bloom all around town right now. If they are in California, I never noticed them. Last week I picked a handful of them, on a walk with my dogs, came home and drew them all over the canvas. It seemed like it was lacking something so I added the guy in a fishnet shirt as my focal point.
