Saturday night Soup for the Soul (03)

nd so we have passed once again thru the eye of the needle and begin a slow and steady accceleration to the explosion of lite, life and colour otherwise known as spring!

"Christmas Time Is Here Again"(1967)

The Beatles released UK fan club Christmas recordings for seven years from 1963 through 1969. They are quite rare, and offer an odd glimpse into their evolution, both collective, and as individuals. 1963's is very adolescent and yet also refreshingly wacky -- they had gone from tiny dot in Liverpool to British Iles wide insane mania in a 18 month critical mass explosion. The envelope showed no signs of dissipating: in fact, it had already spread to Sweden, and the Paris explosion was only weeks away. More importantly, they were on the verge of leaving for the US when they recorded the first Christmas recording in 1963, and we know how that trip turned out.

By the time the last one was recorded in late 1969, they separately "phoned in" their individual contributions. The result is poignant, and bittersweet, and marks both the end of a decade, the end of an era, and the end of the Beatles. I thought it fitting that this blog use the last three (1967, 1968, and 1969) to mark the end of the 2006 Christnmas season.

Here are some interesting places you can go to learn more about these recordings.

I still feel their message, "all you need is love." May your season be blessed by love and light, Sister Cat

It is a season of light and shadow. I notice the shadow but try to focus on the light. LOve is all we need; everything else is a waste of time. I wish you the best of the season, too.

«Everything else is a waste of time.» I wish your words were mandatory!
Best wishes!
